Verdure tapestries depicting Arcadian landscapes are becoming fashionable decorative furnishings once again. This wonderful example dating to around 1700 has many attractive features. The landscape format has great proportions with a height that could be accommodated in many settings. The classic scene has herons in the foreground by a stream, trees and wonderfully exotic foliage. There is a Medieval castle in the middle ground with more trees and foliage to the background. The scene is framed by an exuberant floral border. The subtle greens, golds and browns are enhanced by some lovely shades of red which bring the whole composition to life. This is a handsome tapestry which has survived the generations in its original format without being reduced is size. Scattered repairs but the overall is good. Professionally cleaned in our workshop and ready for immediate use.
