FAQs

Coalport porcelain was established in Shropshire, England, around 1795 by John Rose, growing to become one of the prominent ceramic manufactories known for fine tableware and decorative objects.

These pieces typically utilised fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain bodies, decorated with hand-painted enamels, cobalt blue glazes, and intricate raised gilding fired in traditional kilns.

Authenticity is generally determined by examining the paste, the quality of hand-painting, and locating makers marks or pattern numbers impressed or painted on the underside of the ceramic body.

They can be displayed vertically on plate hangers as wall art, showcased within glass-fronted cabinets, or utilised as decorative centrepieces on sideboards and tables.

Antique porcelain should be washed by hand using mild detergents in lukewarm water, avoiding abrasive sponges, dishwashers, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to protect the fragile gilding and enamels.
