This George III period serving table originates from the 18th century and is made from mahogany with a warm brown colour, flame mahogany veneer, and brass hardware. It has a serpentine front, a central drawer stack with brass swan-neck handles, and tapered square legs with boxwood strung inlaid kingwood panels. The table measures 89 cm high, 142.5 cm wide, and 63.5 cm deep. Such a piece suits a dining room or hallway as a serving table or console for displaying decorative items and storing dining essentials. The compact pedestal section beneath the serpentine top provides practical enclosed storage while maintaining an elegant silhouette suited to traditional interiors.

Designed during the reign of King George III between 1760 and 1820, these tables feature balanced proportions, mahogany woodwork, and functional drawers or side compartments intended to assist with formal meal service.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid dense mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses, joining drawer linings with hand-cut dovetails and securing hardware with cast brass fittings.

Authentic period pieces exhibit uneven hand-planed underside surfaces, irregular dovetail joints, natural wood shrinkage around joints, and original brass hardware held by cast threads and square hand-cut nuts.

Position the table in a hallway or dining room beneath contemporary artwork, balancing the dark timber tones against neutral plaster walls and minimal decorative ceramics.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice annually using a soft cotton cloth, avoiding silicone-based aerosol polishes and keeping the timber clear of direct heat sources and sunlight.
