This Victorian occasional table dates from 1860 in the English country house style. The piece takes the form of a window table made from burr walnut and walnut, displaying a warm brown colour with a smooth finish. The table consists of a shaped oval top resting on curved scroll supports that lead down to a central turned finial and four cabriole feet fitted with brass castors. The timber shows a mellow patina across the surfaces, along with detailed carving on the base framework and visible grain patterns on the top. The piece stands 74 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep in practical terms. This occasional table functions well in a bay window, living room, or hallway as a display surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects, blending easily into traditional and period interior schemes while providing a sturdy platform for daily use.

A Victorian burr walnut window table is a decorative piece of occasional furniture designed to sit within a window alcove or beside seating areas. These tables typically feature figure-rich walnut veneers, shaped tops, and carved scroll-form supports.

These tables were constructed using solid hardwood frameworks covered with thin, highly figured burr walnut veneers. Craftsmanship features include hand-carved legs, mortise and tenon joinery, and brass castors attached to the feet.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display natural patination, hand-cut joinery, original brass castors, and slight age-related variations in the veneer surface. Checking the underside reveals hand-sawn timber elements and traditional screw fixings.

Position the table in a window recess, hallway nook, or alongside a modern armchair as a functional side surface. Combining warm timber tones with neutral upholstery and contemporary ceramics balances traditional craftsmanship with modern decor.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent veneer lifting.
