An Unusual 19th Century Walnut Butlers Tray on Stand

Description

Of large size and with a spindle gallery and unusual carrying handles, this walnut tray retains the original folding stand. It is of very good quality and colour throughout. Butler's trays were originally used as the name suggests by the butler to bring drinks, tea or cakes to the drawing room. The folding stand would be set in place by the maid and the tray placed upon it. Today they are ideal to act as side tables in a dining or drawing room. This tray with its size, quality, elegant stand and good colour, is a particularly decent example. Circa 1840
