FAQs

A rosewood basket base centre table is a mid-19th century decorative table, frequently crafted during the William IV or early Victorian periods, distinguished by a highly carved openwork base resembling a basket of scrolling foliage that supports a large wooden top.

These tables commonly feature richly figured rosewood veneers glued over a solid pine or oak substrate for the tabletop, combined with heavy solid carved rosewood for the scrollwork legs, central finials, and pedestal assembly.

Authentic period examples demonstrate crisp hand-carved detailing along the apron and scroll feet, natural movement or fine micro-checking in the veneer surface, brass castors hidden beneath the feet, and traditional hand-cut joinery underneath.

Position the piece as an anchor in a spacious entrance foyer or hallway, pairing the dark figured timber with a contemporary ceramic vessel, minimal sculpture, or clean-lined seating to create a balanced textural contrast.

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually along the direction of the grain, while avoiding direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer damage.
