This French Rococo centre table dates from 1880 and takes the form of a freestanding table crafted from warm brown walnut with a natural timber grain and visible age patina. The piece displays a serpentine top with moulded edges above a scroll apron decorated with crisp floral carvings on all four sides. Slender cabriole legs curve outward from the corners, supporting the structure and terminating in delicate feet. Practical dimensions of 73 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 64 cm deep allow the table to function effectively within various spaces around the home. In a modern interior, this item suits placement as a focal point in a hallway, drawing room, or foyer centre, where it can stand independently or hold small decorative objects. The compact proportions permit placement against a wall or in an open area, bringing traditional French chateau character to living spaces. The warm tones of the wood surface complement both classic and contemporary interior schemes while providing a functional display or surface area.

Louis XV style tables, originating in 18th-century France, are defined by Rococo influences including asymmetrical organic curves, cabriole legs, serpentine edges, and hand-carved floral or foliage motifs along the frieze.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as solid walnut, oak, or fruitwood, constructed using traditional pegged mortise and tenon joinery and finished with hand-applied wax polishes.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, irregular underside planing, natural wood oxidisation, hand-carved decorative relief details, and signs of historical wear on leg bases and high-touch areas.

A centre table functions effectively as an entryway focal point in an entrance hall or foyer. Placing a contemporary vase or single ceramic piece on top creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Preserve the finish by applying a thin layer of natural beeswax annually and buffing with a soft cloth. Keep the item away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged exposure to strong sunlight.
