This French chateau style centre table dates from 1900 and is constructed from solid dark brown walnut and hardwood. The piece is finished in a warm dark wood tone and displays detailed rocaille carvings across all four sides of the apron, the cabriole legs, and the central X-shaped stretcher, alongside a shaped serpentine top with a moulded edge. It measures 77 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 65 cm deep. Position this solid table in the middle of a room, within a spacious hallway or foyer, or set against a living room wall. It functions well as a display surface for decorative items or as a central accent piece in an interior setting.

Louis XV style centre tables are defined by fluid asymmetry, serpentine edges, and carved rocaille or C-scroll ornamentation. They typically feature cabriole legs, shaped aprons, and ornamental stretchers designed to be viewed from all angles.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as French walnut, oak, and beech wood. High-status pieces featured rich hand-carved detailing, polished wax finishes, and occasionally inlaid veneers or marble tops.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-tooling on the underside, pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery, and natural shrinkage or unevenness in the timber grain over time. Carvings should exhibit hand-chiseled depth rather than uniform machine moulding.

A carved centre table serves as an ideal anchor in a central foyer, entrance hall, or beneath a staircase. In living spaces, it can be styled with minimal contemporary ceramics or table lamps to create contrast against classical wood carvings.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or damp areas to prevent timber movement and cracking.
