Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century mahogany Irish games table in the Georgian Irish style displays a warm mahogany brown colour across its polished wooden surfaces. The design includes an inlaid backgammon board top featuring contrasting boxwood and ebony points, centred with marquetry cartouche panels, alongside two pull-out side candle slides and a front drawer slide with a reddish patterned lining. The structure rests on cabriole legs ending in pad feet and incorporates smooth mouldings around the sunken play surface. Practical dimensions are 70 cm high, 73 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Positioned in a home today, this table fits well in an empty corner or a gentleman's library. It functions effectively as a designated spot for board games or display purposes, with the extendable candle slides providing useful surface space for small items while the drawer accommodates gaming accessories or writing implements.

FAQs

Georgian Irish games tables often feature distinctive proportions, dense Cuban mahogany, cabriole legs, and specialised compartments or marquetry inlays designed for traditional games such as backgammon, chess, or cards.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany or walnut, featuring marquetry inlays using boxwood, ebony, and satinwood, alongside pull-out candle slides and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, original saw marks beneath the frame, natural patination, hand-inlaid gaming surfaces, and period-appropriate features like pull-out candle stands.

An antique games table serves effectively as an occasional table, hall console, or accent piece in a drawing room or study, functioning as both a decorative focal point and a game table.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or warping, clean gently with a soft dry cloth, and apply beeswax polish annually along the grain.
