This Regency mahogany card table is a classic example of early nineteenth-century cabinet work, designed in the refined Regency style. The piece is constructed from warm brown figured timber with a rich polished finish, showing a rectangular fold-over top with softly rounded front corners and a plain frieze beneath. Below the top sits a sturdy turned central pedestal stem featuring distinct ring turnings, which flows down into quadruped splayed legs. Each splayed leg terminates in ornate brass toe caps with integrated castors, offering practical mobility while maintaining period authenticity. The table stands 74 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, making it a versatile surface for a living room, hallway, or study. Placed against a wall or used as a central display table, this compact item provides a functional surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects while adding historic character to modern interiors.

Regency card tables, originating in early 19th-century Britain, feature fold-over tops designed for gaming that rotate or unfold to reveal a playing surface, typically supported by a central turned pedestal and splayed legs.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and decorated with flame mahogany veneers, often incorporating oak secondary timbers, hand-cut brass hinges, and cast brass toe caps with castors.

Authentic pieces display hand-planed secondary woods, period-appropriate brass swivel mechanisms or fold-over hinges, original brass castors, and natural age-related patination across the finish.

Position the table folded closed against a wall as a hallway console or occasional side table, topped with a table lamp, ceramic vase, or framed artwork to contrast classical and modern elements.

Maintain the table by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, applying a quality beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain, and keeping it away from direct heat sources and high humidity.
