Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pelmet or pediment is a decorative architectural moulding mounted above windows, doors, or bed frames to conceal fixtures or serve as a decorative cresting. In eighteenth and nineteenth-century French interiors, hand-carved wooden pediments featuring scrollwork and floral motifs were commonly used to add architectural proportion.

Traditional French pelmets were typically hand-carved from hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or pine, then finished with gesso and paint. The construction often features integrated mounting points or mortise-and-tenon joinery to sit securely against wall elevations.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-tool marks, original chisel work, and natural age-related paint distress or flaking. Examining the reverse side often reveals rough-sawn timber, hand-forged iron mounting hardware, or historic joinery techniques.

An antique carved pelmet can be mounted directly above a doorway, window frame, or headboard to create an architectural focal point. Alternatively, it functions effectively as standalone wall art positioned above a console table or fireplace.

Dust the carved surfaces gently with a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth to avoid disrupting loose paint flakes. Liquid cleaners, solvents, and excessive humidity should be avoided to preserve the original paint layer and wood substrate.
