FAQs

Burr walnut veneer gained immense popularity during the Victorian era and the earlier Queen Anne period, prized by cabinet makers for its complex, swirling grain patterns and luxurious appearance.

These pieces typically utilise a sturdy secondary timber framework overlaid with thinly sliced burr walnut veneers, frequently decorated with boxwood or fruitwood marquetry inlay and supported by carved solid walnut bases.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut veneers with irregular, natural grain patterns, traditional joinery methods such as dovetails or pegged joints, and age-appropriate oxidisation and wear on the underside and finish.

Pairing an ornate wooden table with minimalist modern seating or placing it as a contrasting accent piece in a neutral room highlights its intricate craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
