This Art Deco occasional table from the 1930s is formed from walnut, burr walnut, and timber veneer in a warm brown, mid-tone honey colour. The piece takes an octagonal shape, showing an intricate pattern of book-paged burr walnut veneer on the top surface, complemented by strongly figured panel legs and a lower tier shelf. The structure measures 53 cm high, 78 cm wide, and 78 cm deep, presenting a heavy and sturdy build. Positioned easily at the end of a sofa, the table suits most living areas as a practical surface for display while offering internal storage beneath for books and magazines. The restored wood finish has been newly French polished to bring out the grain patterns across the octagonal top and broad side panels. Originating in the UK, the item functions well as a central spot for daily use in a sitting room or drawing room.

Art Deco furniture from the 1930s is characterised by bold geometric forms, clean lines, and lavish natural wood veneers. The movement emphasised modern craftsmanship, moving away from historicism towards streamlined shapes and functional elegance.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised highly figured wood veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, and macassar ebony over solid hardwood framing. Metal mounts, mirrored glass, and geometric inlay were also integrated to add contrasting detail.

Authentic pieces display period-specific joinery, continuous matching grain veneers, and geometric silhouettes typical of the 1920s and 1930s. Original finishes often show subtle age patina, with hand-applied french polish or lacquer on underlying hardwood structures.

Position the piece alongside contemporary upholstered seating to allow its rich timber grain and geometric form to serve as a focal point. Pair with simple ceramic accents or warm brass lighting to complement the vintage wood tone without overwhelming the space.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading of the delicate veneer.
