Welsh Tavern, Farmhouse Kitchen Or Dairy Table, Circa 1790

£2,500    $3,055    €2,961
Superb Welsh farmhouse or tavern table, with a removeable two-plank top with end-cleats made of sycamore, which has been scrubbed and polished to give an attractive patinated surface. The planks are joined together with ''hidden'' tenons fixed with pegs, in the Welsh fashion (see close-ups). The pine base is raised on square legs which taper below the end stretchers, and has a nicely-worn historical painted finish in red and brown. At one end there is the rare feature of a narrow rail, which was used for hanging wooden ladles.

Brecknockshire, mid-Wales, circa 1790.

92 ins (234 cms) long
