This Regency drop-leaf Pembroke table originates from around 1800. Constructed from warm brown figured mahogany with brass hardware, the piece displays a rectangular top with extended drop leaves, a single end drawer fitted with round brass knobs, and delicately turned legs terminating on brass castors. The timber exhibits rich natural grain patterns across the leaves and frieze. Practical in design, the table stands 70 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 91 cm deep, expanding to 112 cm wide when open. In a contemporary interior, this occasional table suits placement at the end of a sofa, providing a functional surface for lamps, books, or drinks in a living room or study.

A Pembroke table is a compact drop-leaf table developed in the 18th century, featuring two hinged flaps that raise on wooden fly-brackets to expand the tabletop, often fitted with a single end drawer.

Regency Pembroke tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak drawer linings, supported by turned or tapered legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic 19th-century Pembroke tables feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass castors or knobs, age-consistent wear around the hinged brackets, and natural wood shrinkage on the top surface.

A mahogany Pembroke table functions well as an occasional side table beside a sofa, an entryway console table, or a compact writing desk when one or both leaves are raised.

Preserve mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a soft cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax paste twice a year, keeping it out of direct sunlight, and maintaining stable room humidity.
