This William IV mahogany Pembroke table dates from circa 1830 in the 19th-century English Country House style. The warm brown timber displays visible wood grain across the rectangular top and single frieze drawer, complemented by round brass drop ring handles, a central keyhole escutcheon, drop leaves with folding brackets, slender turned legs, and brass castors. Measuring 71 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 92 cm deep with leaves down, the surface expands to 104 cm wide when the leaves are raised. Position this occasional table at the end of a sofa or beside a chair in a living room, study, or hallway to provide functional surface space and versatile storage. The compact footprint and drop-leaf design allow the piece to adapt easily to various room layouts, functioning well as a lamp table or small writing desk in period properties and modern homes alike.

A Pembroke table is a small, versatile occasional table equipped with two hinged drop leaves that can be raised to extend the tabletop. Originating in eighteenth-century Britain, these tables were designed to be light and easily moved around living areas.

During the William IV era (18301837), cabinetmakers primarily utilised rich mahogany timber alongside brass fittings for handles, escutcheons, and castors. Interiors of drawers were typically constructed from pine or oak.

Authentic William IV pieces feature robust turnings on the legs, reeded or carved details, solid mahogany veneers, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction. Brass castors and original lock escutcheons are also hallmark features of this short transitional period.

A Pembroke table works effectively as a sofa side table, an occasional bedside table, or a hallway accent piece. The drop leaves allow the footprint to be adjusted based on available floor space.

To preserve the finish, apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year using a soft lint-free cloth. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement or fading.
