This Georgian Pembroke table is an 18th-century piece executed in warm brown mahogany. The oval top incorporates two drop leaves, supported above a single drawer and a corresponding faux drawer fitted with circular brass ring handles alongside a central keyhole. Boxwood stringing provides fine inlaid linear decoration bordering the drawer and running down the length of the square tapered legs, which terminate in brass castors. Measuring 69 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 75 cm deep with the flaps down, it expands to 103 cm wide when the leaves are raised. Suitable for placement as an end table beside a sofa or in a reception room, the table offers practical surface space for everyday use. The timber displays a rich finish, and the construction demonstrates traditional cabinet-making conventions typical of the period. The compact footprint makes it adaptable for various interior settings while maintaining period character.

Originating in the mid-18th century, a Pembroke table is a compact drop-leaf table designed for occasional use such as tea, breakfast, or writing. It features two hinged leaves supported by folding wooden brackets and traditionally includes a single frieze drawer.

Georgian Pembroke tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, with oak or pine used for secondary drawer linings. Construction characteristics include hand-cut dovetail joints, inlaid wood stringing, square tapered legs, and brass hardware or castors.

Authentic period pieces display hand-planed surfaces, slightly asymmetrical hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, original wooden fly-bracket hinges, and period-appropriate brass castors. Inspecting the underside reveals timber oxidation consistent with two centuries of age.

Due to its adaptable drop-leaf construction, a Pembroke table functions effectively as an end table beside a sofa, a compact bedside stand, or an entry hall console. Pair it with a contemporary ceramic lamp or decorative bowl to create a balanced contrast between period woodworking and modern elements.

Position the table away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and air conditioning units to avoid timber shrinkage or warping. Clean the wood using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
