George III Mahogany Serpentine Serving / Side Table

Description

An exceptional George III mahogany, serpentine serving / side table of monumental proportions; the figured mahogany top with an exaggerated serpentine front, but the whole still retaining desireable shallow form, with a finely carved egg and dart moulding below; the swept frieze in bookmatched highly figured mahogany with a finely carved gadrooned moulding. The square tapering legs headed with fine stop fluted rectangular panels echoing the design of the legs, terminating in moulded block feet.

The quality, design and proportions of this table would indicate that it is by one of the leading cabinet makers of the day, and no doubt for a very grand house.

Good colour and patination. Provenance by repute Alderley House, Gloucestershire
