Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in late eighteenth-century England, the Canterbury was commissioned by the Bishop of Canterbury as a mobile partition rack for sheet music. Throughout the Victorian era, cabinetmakers adapted the design using rich hardwoods like walnut and rosewood, creating multi-functional stands used for holding periodicals, newspapers, and music scores.

Victorian examples are primarily constructed from hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood. Standard structural features include hand-turned corner posts, slatted internal dividers, hand-dovetailed base drawers, and brass castors attached to turned feet.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display signs of traditional joinery, including uneven hand-cut dovetails inside the drawer and original brass hardware. Look for natural oxidation on the underside of the timber, authentic wear around the castors, and smooth turned finials crafted from solid timber.

Position the piece adjacent to an armchair or sofa to store current magazines, books, or vinyl records. The compact proportions and timber tones make it a functional accent piece in living rooms, home offices, or reading nooks.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, soft microfiber cloth along the grain. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to nourish the walnut finish, and position the stand away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or fading.
