FAQs

Popularised during the Qing Dynasty, particularly throughout the late nineteenth century, these stands were produced both for domestic Chinese residences and as export decorative furniture for western markets.

Craftspeople utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood or hongmu, joined using mortise and tenon techniques, with hand-carved aprons and inset variegated marble tops fitted into carved wooden grooves.

Authentic pieces feature hand-chiseled pierced carving with subtle irregularities, aged patination on the unfinished underside, and floating marble panels rather than modern glued inserts.

These stands are placed in living spaces, foyers, or alcoves to hold sculptural ceramics, lighting, or botanical displays, introducing dark wood textures into contemporary spaces.

Dust the timber with a dry microfibre cloth and preserve the finish using natural beeswax, while wiping the marble insert with damp cloths and avoiding acidic cleaning solutions.
