FAQs

Bombay Presidency furniture refers to 19th-century Anglo-Indian furniture produced in Western India, created primarily for British colonial officials and export markets. These pieces combine Western utility and furniture shapes with traditional Indian hand-carving techniques.

These tables were typically crafted from dense, durable indigenous hardwoods such as teak, shisham, or rosewood, which allowed craftsman to execute deep, intricate foliate carvings without splintering.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense, high-relief hand carvings depicting floral, vine, and leaf patterns, as well as architectural details like archways. They often feature panelled or collapsible bases and display age-appropriate patination in wood crevices.

A carved octagonal table functions well as an accent piece alongside contemporary upholstery, balancing textured woodwork with clean lines in living rooms, reading nooks, or entryways.

Dust deeply carved surfaces using a soft-bristled brush or vacuum attachment with a brush head. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly using a soft cloth, buffing gently to preserve the natural patina and prevent drying.
