Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-nineteenth-century French Provincial coffee table comes in warm brown cherrywood with a rich timber grain and a polished finish. The rectangular piece displays a plank top with softly rounded corners, four straight tapered square legs, and a small wooden side drawer fitted with a simple knob. The table shows gentle surface wear across the topboards from age and daily use. Beyond the dealer description, the visual details include a golden-brown honey tone across the wooden planks, straight square-profile legs, and a small rectangular pull handle on the side drawer. Measuring 51 cm high, 134 cm wide, and 82 cm deep, the coffee table suits a living room setting in a home today as a central low table positioned in front of a sofa or a pair of armchairs to hold books, drinks, or decorative items within a rustic farmhouse interior.

FAQs

French Provincial furniture originated in the 18th century as regional craftsmen adapted Parisian court styles into functional, sturdy pieces for rural homes. These items emphasise natural timber finishes, clean contours, and practical storage elements like side drawers.

Craftsmen typically utilised native hardwoods such as cherrywood, oak, walnut, and fruitwood. Traditional construction techniques included pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed top planks, and hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers.

Authentic historic tables feature subtle irregularities from hand tools, natural shrinkage gaps along plank seams, uniform oxidisation, and age-appropriate wear around the feet and lower legs. Search for hand-carved joinery rather than modern machine-made fasteners.

Anchor the table in a central living area over a neutral woven rug to balance its rich wood tones. Keep surface decor minimal with contemporary ceramic vases, stacked art books, or brass objects to create a balanced contrast.

Maintain solid cherrywood by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice annually. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid wood shrinkage, warping, or fading.
