Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century German Gothic Revival stained glass window panel originates from Bamberg in Bavaria. The hand-painted glass piece depicts a smiling horned imp face framed within a leaded hexagonal window with a wire hanger at the top, executed in grey, black and amber tones with visible tiny bubbles, scratches and chips. It measures 20 cm wide by 18.5 cm high and weighs 268 g, presenting a good original antique condition with old glass imperfections. Placed on a deep window sill or hung in a window where daylight shines through the glass, it adds a distinctive Gothic grotesque motif to an interior space today.

FAQs

During the 19th century, particularly within the Gothic Revival movement, German glassmakers revived medieval techniques to produce hand-painted glass panels featuring ecclesiastical, heraldic, and mythological iconography.

These panels were created using pieces of hand-cut clear or coloured glass, painted with vitreous enamel paints fired onto the surface, and bound together using grooved lead cames.

Authentic 19th-century pieces exhibit hand-applied grisaille brushwork, natural surface irregularities within the glass matrix, and oxidisation on the original lead cames.

Suspending the panel directly in front of a natural light source, such as a window frame or within a backlit wall recess, highlights the detailed painting and glass clarity within a space.

Clean the glass surface gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, and avoid liquid cleansers or water that could compromise fragile painted details or weaken the lead structural joints.
