We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A Victorian work table, often referred to as a sewing or needlework table, emerged in the 18th and 19th centuries as a specialised furniture piece designed to hold textile craft materials. These tables feature a flat top surface accompanied by a drop-down storage well or fitted drawers to organize thread, cloth, and implements.

Victorian cabinetmakers frequently used figured hardwoods such as walnut, burr walnut, rosewood, and mahogany. Construction typically included hand-cut dovetail joints, carved turned columns, brass castors, and fabric-lined or solid wooden wells.

Authentic 19th-century Victorian examples exhibit period-appropriate hand joinery, natural timber oxidation, original brass castors, and carved decorative details on the stretchers and supports. Inspecting the underside reveals natural timber shrinkage and historic construction techniques.

A Victorian work table functions well as a side table or focal accent in a living space, hallway, or reading corner. Combining the warm wood grain with modern ceramics, neutral upholstery, or contemporary lighting creates a balanced scheme.

Maintain the surface finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-quality beeswax twice yearly. Position the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or finish fading.
