This Victorian dining table originates from 1850 and is executed in light brown blonde oak with brass castors. The circular top has a double thumb-moulded edge and extends via an extending mechanism with two leaves, supported on turned fluted legs. The timber displays visible grain patterns and warm honey tones, complemented by dark metal castors and finely carved vertical fluting on the lower legs. Measuring 77 cm high, 219 cm wide, and 120 cm deep, the piece offers generous proportions for seating guests comfortably. It functions well as a central gathering surface in a traditional dining room or an English country house interior, easily adapting for daily meals or larger family gatherings.

Developed during the nineteenth century, Victorian extending dining tables feature mechanical winding mechanisms or sliding runners to accommodate additional leaf inserts for flexible seating capacities.

These tables were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon timber joints and fitted with brass castors and steel winding screws.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on perimeter aprons, stamped brass castors from period makers, and original mechanical winding mechanisms visible on the table underside.

A Victorian oak table can be paired with contemporary upholstered chairs or modern metal-framed seating to create a balanced contrast between traditional woodwork and current design styles.

Regular dusting with a soft cloth and periodic application of natural beeswax polish will preserve the timber surface, while heat mats and coasters prevent surface marking from hot items.
