This Anglo-Indian screen frame from the 1920s is made from warm brown walnut with a moulded frame. The top features an arched cresting decorated with intricate floral relief carving, including stylised flowers, foliage, and a central lotus blossom. The structure stands on splayed scrolled feet and has very minor wear commensurate with age, along with some missing tear-shaped wooden retainers at the back. It measures 89 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, with internal dimensions of 53 cm by 49 cm. Suitable for use in a gentleman's library or beside a fireplace hearth, this piece holds a picture or banner inside its frame. It functions as a freestanding decorative accessory to add traditional character to a room while displaying textiles or artwork.

Anglo-Indian fire screens were produced during the British colonial period in India, combining Western furniture forms with intricate regional hand-carving techniques.

These frames were typically crafted from solid dense hardwoods, such as walnut, teak, or rosewood, utilizing traditional mortise and tenon joinery topped with relief carving.

Authentic period examples feature precise hand-carving with slight natural variations, deeply undercut floral or foliage motifs, and aged patination along structural joint lines.

A carved timber screen frame can be positioned near a fireplace or fitted with tapestry, modern textiles, or mirrored glass to serve as a freestanding decorative focal point.

Dust recessed carvings regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber and retain its natural finish.
