This Georgian side table is rendered in pale mahogany with a warm brown finish. The English piece exhibits a gently curved bow front, a plain frieze with ebony stringing, and four slender square-tapered legs terminating in spade feet. The timber displays rich grain patterns across the rectangular top and apron, while the legs feature simple tapering forms ending in distinct spade-shaped terminals. Measuring 84 cm high, 138 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, the serving-height table offers a functional surface for interior spaces. Positioned in an entrance hall beside the front door, the furnishing functions as a practical console for everyday use. The classic Hepplewhite proportions and clean lines suit traditional domestic schemes, adding character to hallways or reception rooms. The compact depth allows placement in narrow circulation areas while providing a surface for decorative items or everyday essentials.

FAQs

Georgian bow front side tables originated in 18th-century Britain, characterised by a gently convex curved front apron and top designed to optimize space along hall walls and reception rooms.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian era predominantly utilised solid mahogany, employing hand-cut joinery, mortise and tenon framing, and hand-turned or tapered leg construction.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planing on the underside, natural timber shrinkage along the grain, uneven oxidation patination, and hand-cut joinery typical of late 18th-century craftsmanship.

Position the table in a narrow hallway, foyer, or alcove, complementing its warm timber finish with modern artwork, minimalist lighting, or sculptural ceramics to balance historical and modern aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a pure beeswax polish once or twice per year, buffing gently along the timber grain while avoiding silicone-based aerosol sprays.
