Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century Venetian Rococo console table is constructed from painted wood, gesso, and gold leaf, finished in distressed light blue paint with parcel-gilding and brown floral scrollwork. The piece features a serpentine apron, cabriole legs ending in deer hooves, and a curved faux marble top showing light age-related wear. Silver-plated flowers and foliage adorn the waistband, which contains a discreet drawer, standing out against the blue background. Measuring 79 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 52 cm deep, the table stands on four legs and displays original decoration, paint, and silver plating. In a contemporary home, this console table is placed beside the front door to greet visitors or positioned in a hallway to display decorative items. The surface holds small lamps, bowls, or books, while the drawer provides storage for keys and everyday essentials. The compact depth allows the furniture to fit comfortably against narrow walls or in transitional spaces without blocking pathways.

FAQs

18th-century Venetian furniture is defined by its Rococo influence, featuring sweeping serpentine contours, slender cabriole legs, and polychrome painted finishes decorated with floral details and gilding.

These tables were typically crafted from softwoods such as pine or poplar, coated in gesso, hand-painted using tempera or oil pigments, and detailed with parcel-gilding.

Authentic period finishes display genuine craquelure, subtle layered wear exposing underlying gesso layers or timber, and natural oxidisation of original gilded areas.

A Venetian console table can be positioned in an entryway or hallway beneath a contemporary mirror to create a balanced focal point between historical craft and modern architecture.

To preserve painted surfaces, position the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, dust lightly with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoid liquid cleaners.
