This Dutch Baroque charger originates from the early eighteenth century and belongs to the wider Dutch Delft tradition. The circular earthenware body carries a white tin glaze finish, decorated in contrasting cobalt oxide blue. Hand-painted botanical motifs display twin floral urns at the centre, while the panelled rim border divides into five distinct sections filled with tall stylised flowers and foliage. Visible signs of age include slight surface fritting around the fragile rim edges, typical of early tin-glazed earthenwares. The object rests upright on a rectangular wooden display block with a polished finish and squared corners. Measuring 2 cm high and 33 cm wide, this decorative dish suits placement above a sideboard in an English country house interior. The traditional blue and white palette integrates readily into classic and period dining rooms or living spaces. Collectors of early ceramics utilise such chargers as focal displays on architectural ledges, mantlepieces or dedicated plate stands within traditional room settings.

Delftware is tin-glazed earthenware decorated primarily with cobalt blue oxide, developed in the Netherlands and Britain during the 17th century as a European response to imported East Asian porcelain.

Pieces are formed from an earthenware clay base, coated with a liquid glaze containing tin oxide to produce an opaque white surface, and painted with metal mineral pigments prior to firing.

Authentic period examples commonly display small glaze losses or nibbles along the rim where the brittle tin glaze has flaked, revealing the buff or reddish clay body beneath.

A charger can be displayed vertically on a dedicated plate stand upon a mantlepiece, mounted on a wall within a gallery arrangement, or positioned on a sideboard shelf.

Dust gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or cloth; water immersion and liquid detergents should be avoided to prevent moisture from penetrating glaze crazing.
