Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Neoclassical display column dates from 1920 and takes the form of a tall square pedestal crafted from wood. The surface bears a painted cream and yellow faux marble finish with darker veining, complemented by a moulded capital and a stepped base. Standing at 126 cm in height with a 35 cm square top, the structure provides a stable platform. In a contemporary interior, the column serves as an architectural display piece suitable for an empty corner to showcase busts, taxidermy, urns, or sculptural objects. The slender profile integrates easily into traditional or modern living spaces where vertical display is desired.

FAQs

Faux marble, or faux marbre, is a decorative painting technique dating back to antiquity that simulates the appearance of real marble on surfaces such as timber, plaster, or metal.

Traditional wooden display columns were typically constructed using pine or hardwood timber frames, sealed with gesso before receiving hand-painted glazes to imitate stone veining.

Authentic historic pieces display natural surface wear, faint craquelure in the paint layer, and timber shrinkage joints rather than perfectly smooth modern printed vinyl coatings.

Display pedestals are positioned to create height and structure in modern interiors, frequently supporting contemporary bronze sculptures, ceramic urns, or large house plants.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft dry microfiber cloth and keep the column away from direct radiator heat or humid areas to prevent timber movement and paint flaking.
