This eighteenth-century Dutch Delftware apothecary bottle takes the form of a tin-glazed earthenware vessel in an off-white colour with hand-painted cobalt blue decoration and an uneven surface finish showing light wear along the base rim. The structure includes a banded rim, a tall narrow neck, a bulbous orb body, and a concave spreading circular foot. The hand-painted front display shows a central decorative cartouche framing the Latin inscription for its contents, flanked by two peacocks, a fruit basket, swags, and hanging pendants. Measuring 32.5 cm in height and 17 cm in diameter, this piece sits well upon a sideboard top within a gentleman's library or study as a functional decorative container or shelf display.

A Delftware apothecary bottle is a tin-glazed earthenware vessel manufactured primarily in the Netherlands and Great Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries, designed to hold medicinal powders, dried herbs, or liquid remedies.

Traditional Delftware is made from earthenware clay coated with an opaque white tin glaze, which provides a smooth surface for hand-painted cobalt blue oxide decoration before firing.

Authentic pieces display characteristic signs of age, including pinhole imperfections in the glaze, edge wear exposing the underlying buff earthenware clay, hand-painted cobalt cartouches, and traditional Latin pharmaceutical labels.

These ceramic vessels are styled on library bookshelves, sideboard tops, or within glass display cabinets to introduce historical texture and pattern into classic or contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth and avoid immersion in water or chemical cleaning agents, as moisture can enter unglazed foot rims or micro-fractures in the glaze.
