This Victorian dining table dates from 1860 in an English Country House style, formed from burr walnut veneer, solid walnut, and white porcelain. The piece displays a warm brown palette with a richly figured swirling grain across the oval top, finished with a moulded edge and a practical tilt-top mechanism that allows it to stand vertically. The substantial central pedestal features bold scrolling and foliate carving, supported by four sweeping cabriole legs with carved details, scroll feet, and white ceramic castors. Light marks and signs of age-related wear appear on the wood, including an old stable split to the pedestal column. Measuring 72.5 cm high by 120 cm wide and 88 cm deep, the table functions practically as a centre table, breakfast table, or intimate dining table. Positioned in an entrance hall, living room, or dining space, the table serves as a strong focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors. When tilted vertically, the decorative veneered top provides visual interest against a wall while saving floor space when not in use. The substantial carved base and warm timber tones coordinate easily with period and eclectic furniture schemes. Everyday use suits casual dining, resting decorative objects, or acting as a central display surface in a home.

A tilt-top table features a hinged tabletop mechanism that rotates vertically to save floor space when not in use, a popular design feature during the Victorian era.

These tables feature burr walnut veneers, prized for their intricate grain patterns, laid over a solid hardwood base with carved pedestal legs and brass or porcelain castors.

Authentic pieces often display hand-carved pedestal bases, original tilt-catch mechanisms, ceramic or brass castors, and natural age-related patina on the wood finish.

Position the table as a focal point in a dining room or spacious hallway, pairing it with contemporary seating or minimal decor to accentuate the rich timber grain.

Protect the veneered surface from direct sunlight and heat sources, apply high-quality beeswax regularly, and wipe spills immediately with a soft, damp cloth.
