This nineteenth century William IV circular rosewood dining and centre table belongs to the grand Regency style. The piece uses rich brown rosewood timber finished with a high gloss, showing prominent book-matched grain patterns across the large circular top and solid turned pedestal base. It stands on carved solid lions paw feet above original brass castors and employs a tilt-top mechanism that allows the top to lift upright for storage or display. The entire structure stands 72.5 cm high, with a width and depth of 127 cm. In a contemporary home, the table functions effectively as a central statement piece in a large hallway or reception room, or serves as a principal dining table in a formal dining space. When tilted upright, it occupies minimal floor space while displaying the decorative wood grain, and returns to a horizontal position when needed for dining or entertaining guests.

Dating from approximately 1830 to 1837, William IV furniture bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras, characterised by robust proportions, substantial turned or carved pedestals, and bold classical details such as carved feet and figurative veneers.

Cabinetmakers frequently used solid timber framing faced with highly figured rosewood veneers, arranged in symmetrical book-matched configurations to highlight the natural grain, paired with solid brass tilt-top mechanisms and hand-carved bases.

Authentic pieces display period features including brass catch mechanisms on the tilt-top undersides, hand-carved details such as lion paw feet or scrolled triform bases, and secondary native timbers like pine or oak underneath the main top.

A circular centre table functions effectively in an entrance hall or dining room, paired with modern minimalist seating or architectural lighting fixtures to complement the rich figure of the natural timber grain.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid veneer movement or wood bleaching, dust regularly with a dry soft cloth, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly along the direction of the grain.
