Strickland & Russell has dated this Antique Giltwood Picture Frame to the 19th Century.
Title: Decorative Gilt Gesso Picture Frame with Acanthus Leaf and Beaded Detail
Date: Circa 1890–1910
Material: Timber frame with moulded composition/gesso decoration and gilt finish. Glazed.

Details:
The deep stepped construction gives the frame considerable depth and presence, while the aged gilt surface has developed an appealing warm antique tone.

The reverse retains its old timber construction, backing paper remnants, nails and hanging cord, all consistent with considerable age.
A particularly decorative period frame which would work beautifully with a small oil painting, portrait, miniature, drawing or other period artwork.

Condition:
Good antique condition overall with clear age-related wear. There are some losses to the applied decorative moulding, particularly along the upper outer section and around parts of the inner ornament. There is also cracking, rubbing and wear to the gilt surface, all visible in the photographs.

The frame remains highly decorative and usable.
Please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
Measurements:
Overall frame: 33 x 29 x 6 cm
Visible aperture: 14 x 10 cm
Depth: 6 cm
