An antique 19th-century Georgian style Pembroke table produced in dark brown mahogany with boxwood stringing inlay, square tapered legs, and brass ring handles. The piece incorporates two drop flaps to either side, a single functional front drawer with two circular brass plates, and square legs terminating in spade feet. Rich dark wood grain is visible across the surfaces, along with lighter geometric line inlay outlining the drawer front and legs. It measures 61.5 cm high, 102 cm wide, and 51 cm deep when closed. Positioned traditionally as a side table or placed at the end of a sofa in an English country house interior, the table provides adaptable surface space. The drop leaves fold down neatly when storage is limited or extend outwards to expand the top surface for daily use in a living room, study, or drawing room.

A Pembroke table is a compact occasional table featuring two hinged drop leaves that can be raised to expand the surface area, typically equipped with one or two drawers. Popularised in the eighteenth century, it was designed for versatile use in living spaces, serving as a tea table, writing surface, or side table.

Traditional Georgian Pembroke tables were constructed primarily from high-grade mahogany or satinwood, often adorned with boxwood or ebony stringing inlays. The legs were commonly square-tapered or turned, featuring solid brass castors or shaped spade feet.

Authentic Georgian-style Pembroke tables feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, period-appropriate brass hardware, and square-tapered or turned legs terminating in spade feet or brass castors. Look for characteristic boxwood or ebony line inlay along drawer fronts and leg faces, as well as natural wear on the underside leaf supports.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as a versatile side table positioned alongside a sofa or armchair, where its drop leaves can be extended when required. It can also serve as an elegant bedside table or a hallway console decorated with a lamp and ceramics.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent wood movement, veneer lifting, or finish alteration.
