Lee Hawkins Antiques & Interiors has dated this French Kingwood Vitrine Table to the 19th Century.
The shaped top is inset with a large glazed panel and lifts to reveal a fitted display compartment beneath, making this an ideal piece for presenting jewellery, silver, porcelain, objets d’art or other treasured collections.

The frieze is particularly attractive, decorated with continuous floral garlands, ribboned swags and finely cast foliate mounts. Further gilt-bronze detailing runs down the legs, which taper elegantly to decorative sabots, giving the table a light and graceful profile despite the richness of its decoration.

Its compact dimensions make it especially versatile. At just 58 cm wide and 32 cm deep, it works beautifully in a drawing room, hallway, bedroom, study or collector’s interior where a full-size vitrine would be too imposing.

Fine late 19th-century French display furniture of this type continues to appeal to collectors and interior designers because it combines decorative craftsmanship with real practical use. While antique furniture should never be treated as a guaranteed financial investment, quality period pieces with desirable materials and original decorative detail have enduring collector appeal.
