A French Library Globe on a decorative cast iron base by the leading Paris Globe Publishers, J. Lebegue & Cie, circa 1880 in date.

The patented globe was published (globe terrestre) and is constructed from a plaster base sphere covered with chromolithographed paper gores showing countries, cities and topographical details.

Further detail relating to international rail routes, shipping lines and undersea telegraphic cables on a tripod base.

Origins:

Founded originally in Brussels by Alphonse Lebègue in 1814, the firm expanded to Paris around 1850 as J. Lebègue & Cie located at 30 Rue de Lille,
