This Edwardian plant stand is a tall, slender timber piece dating from circa 1900. It is finished in an original green paint with visible wear, scuffs, and surface distressing that reveal the aged wood beneath. The structure comprises four tiered platforms supported by square legs, accented with arched aprons beneath the uppermost shelf and small bracket supports under the side ledges. At 120 cm high, 35.5 cm wide, and 35.5 cm deep, it provides multiple display levels while occupying a minimal floor footprint. It sits easily in an empty corner of a sunlit conservatory, hallway, or living room to hold potted greenery, trailing plants, or decorative ceramics.

Plant stands from around 1900 typically feature slender timber frames, tiered display surfaces, and functional geometric silhouettes influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. They were designed to showcase indoor foliage and potted plants within residential interiors.

These stands were commonly constructed from softwoods such as pine or hardwoods such as oak, joined using traditional mortise and tenon joints, timber dowels, and side brackets for structural support, often finished with painted milk paint or oil-based paint.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural surface wear, paint erosion around high-touch edges, hand-cut joinery, and evidence of historical timber shrinkage or natural oxidisation underneath the painted layers.

Place the stand near a window or within an empty corner to introduce vertical interest, using the multiple tiers to display cascading houseplants, botanical ceramics, or sculpted terracotta pots.

Maintain original paint by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and keeping the item away from direct heat sources or high humidity. Flaking areas can be stabilized with a thin layer of neutral microcrystalline wax.
