Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III tilt-top table is an 18th-century piece of British furniture designed with a hinged top mechanism mounted on a central pedestal. This mechanism allows the table surface to tilt vertically, enabling the piece to be stored flat against a wall when not in use.

These tables were primarily crafted from Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its density, distinct grain pattern, and durability. The underlying framing and catch mechanisms frequently feature wrought iron, brass, or secondary timber such as oak and pine.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the pedestal block, hand-turned central columns, and original brass latch mechanisms beneath the top. Look for natural timber shrinkage across the grain of the top, original iron strap bracing underneath the tripod legs, and authentic surface patination.

Position the table beside a sofa or reading chair as a functional surface for lighting and books. Alternatively, tilt the table top upright and place it in an empty corner or alcove to display the timber grain as a decorative visual accent.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a beeswax polish once or twice a year following the timber grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting, and ensure the catch mechanism is operated gently.
