Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century French marquetry side tables frequently draw design inspiration from eighteenth-century Louis XV styles. They typically feature curvilinear silhouettes, such as kidney-shaped tops, cabriole legs, intricate wood veneer inlays, and cast gilt bronze ormolu mounts along the edges and feet.

These tables are generally constructed using a solid hardwood frame veneered with exotic woods such as kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, or walnut to form decorative floral or geometric marquetry. Cast brass or gilt bronze (ormolu) is applied for protective edges, corner mounts, and sabots.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-cut marquetry veneers, natural patination on the wood finish, and cast bronze fittings secured with original slotted screws. The underside of the carcass often reveals hand-sawn timber elements and historic joinery rather than modern machine cuts.

A marquetry side table functions as an accent piece alongside contemporary upholstered furniture, such as placed at the end of a sofa or in a reading corner. The contrast between historical timber tones and clean, modern textile backdrops highlights the tables decorative geometry.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid applying harsh chemical sprays or excessive moisture, which can loosen timber veneers; apply a thin coat of natural beeswax annually to preserve the timber finish, and clean metal mounts using only a dry soft brush.
