Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco furniture, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric silhouettes, clean lines, and sweeping curves. Craftsmen frequently incorporated decorative wood veneers, such as figured walnut or burr elm, to highlight natural grain patterns within streamlined modern forms.

Makers during the Art Deco period favoured rich hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood. High-figured veneers were applied over solid wood cores to create symmetrical book-matched grains, often combined with curved bentwood elements and low-sheen lacquer finishes.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-cut joinery, solid timber secondary drawer sides, and natural age-related patination. The presence of book-matched wood veneers and architectural base shapes, like stepped or block feet, also indicates genuine Art Deco production.

An Art Deco side table works well when positioned beside a contemporary sofa or mid-century armchair. Incorporating a modern table lamp or ceramic vessel on top creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

To preserve walnut veneer, clean the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax paste periodically along the direction of the grain, avoiding silicone-based polishes, direct heat sources, and prolonged exposure to sunlight.
