Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen spice towers originated in the 18th century as utilitarian culinary vessels designed to keep costly spices fresh and organised. Skilled woodturners produced these multi-tiered cylindrical containers, which featured individual labelled compartments for spices such as cloves, mace, and nutmeg.

These containers were typically lathe-turned from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, sycamore, or fruitwood, which held fine screw threads effectively. Each section was hand-threaded or friction-fitted to stack tightly together, with black printed or hand-lettered spice names applied to the outer band of each tier.

Authentic period pieces exhibit subtle irregularities in hand-cut screw threads, shrinkage profiles along the wood grain, and a smooth, oxidized patina built up over decades of handling. Markings and typography consistent with 18th and early 19th-century printing techniques further assist in verification.

A treen spice tower functions well displayed on a kitchen island, side table, or open shelving alongside other historical domestic artefacts. Its compact vertical form provides visual height and texture when grouped with ceramics or placed on a mantlepiece.

Treen requires protection from direct sunlight, extreme humidity fluctuations, and liquid contact to prevent wood splitting or thread warping. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax paste occasionally to maintain the wood grain.
