Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian mahogany writing desks are functional timber tables produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901). They typically feature rectangular tops, single or double frieze drawers, turned or reeded legs, and are constructed from rich mahogany hardwoods.

These desks were primarily constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine or oak carcases. Key details include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, turned wood or brass drawer pulls, and hand-applied french polish finishes.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as slight irregular hand-planing marks, original hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, natural wood oxidation inside drawer cavities, and historical wear consistent with 19th-century usage.

A Victorian writing desk can serve as a compact home office workstation, a hall console table, or a dressing table in a bedroom. Pairing the warm mahogany timber with modern lighting or contemporary seating creates a balanced aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber cracking and veneer bleaching.
