Staffordshire Prattware refers to 19th-century English earthenware ceramics made famous by F. & R. Pratt of Fenton. The style is distinguished by the development of multi-colour underglaze transfer printing, capturing detailed pictorial, landscape, and narrative scenes framed by coloured borders.

Prattware pieces were constructed from fine earthenware bodies that underwent a primary biscuit firing. Engraved copper plates were used to apply multiple coloured inks under an overarching clear lead glaze, often completed with hand-applied gilding along rims and handles.

Authentic pieces feature sharp, multi-coloured underglaze transfer prints rather than hand-painted fills or surface decals. Look for impressed or printed maker marks such as F. & R.
