Regency Bronze ‘Thomas Hope’ Stand

19th century
Description

A superb quality Regency Neo-classical Thomas Hope design bronze stand/torchere. The original Belgian Black marble top sits on the bronze base. The stand headed with a continual loop band centred by flower heads, above three monopodiums, with rams heads, slender supports between stepped plinths top and bottom, and terminating in shapely paw feet, joined by X-frame supports with moulded roundels. Circa 1820.

In excellent original condition, with no damage and retains a wonderful patina.

Also bears an old paper label written ‘Howard’.

In Thomas Hope’s book of Regency Furniture and Interior Decoration, he refers to such items as Tripod tables and all elements of this stand feature heavily in his drawings.
