This Jacobean revival side table from 1920 is built from warm brown oak. The piece has a figured oak top featuring an upstand and a moulded edge, positioned above two deep drawers decorated with geometric panels and turned wooden knobs. Below the drawers sits a scalloped apron, supported by turned vertical legs connected by a low stretcher base. Measuring 146 cm wide, 32.4 cm deep, and 90.2 cm in total height, the slim proportions suit narrow hallways, landings, or living rooms as a console table or serving surface against a wall. The compact footprint allows placement in confined spaces while offering substantial surface area and storage within the two drawer compartments.

FAQs

Jacobean style furniture, originating in seventeenth-century England and revived in later eras, is recognised by solid oak construction, rich dark finishes, and prominent geometric moulding. Common features include turned legs, heavy stretchers for stability, and panelled drawer fronts.

Traditional oak side tables utilise solid oak timber joined with mortise and tenon joints, dovetail drawer construction, and hand-turned spindle legs. Drawer fronts frequently feature applied geometric mouldings along with turned wooden knop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit physical indicators of historical crafting, including hand-cut dovetail joints, tool marks on secondary wood surfaces, and natural patination around high-wear areas like handles and foot stretchers. Solid timber weight and original drawer linings also signify age.

A narrow oak console table functions well in a modern hallway or living area as a structural anchor against neutral walls. Pairing warm dark timber with contemporary lighting, metallic accents, or minimal ceramics balances traditional character with clean modern lines.

Maintain antique oak by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually to preserve wood moisture and lustre. Avoid placing timber tables in direct sunlight or near radiator heat sources to prevent warping and finish damage.
