Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in ecclesiastical settings before expanding into domestic interiors, a credence table is a small side table or console that typically features a folding top and turned legs. During the 17th century in England, these pieces were constructed from solid native oak and used for serving food or displaying household items.

Period credence tables were crafted using quarter-sawn native oak, assembled with mortise and tenon joinery secured by wooden pegs. Decorative elements included hand-carved friezes, arcading, and lathe-turned legs.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-planed timber surfaces, hand-cut joinery, and natural wood shrinkage across the grain. Original tables display dark patination within recessed carvings, wooden peg construction rather than modern metal screws, and historical wear around the base stretchers.

Position the table in an entryway or hallway as a console piece, paired with a contemporary mirror or modern artwork above it to create visual contrast. The rich timber patination pairs effectively with textured plaster walls and minimalist ceramics.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity fluctuations to prevent timber movement and splitting.
