A striking antique Chinese lacquer tilt top table dating from circa 1900, beautifully hand decorated with an intricate Chinoiserie landscape featuring figures, birds, trees and stylised foliage, all executed in rich gilt and coloured lacquer against a deep black ground.
The circular top is exceptionally decorative, displaying an elegant scene of scholars gathered within a tranquil garden setting beneath pine trees and drifting clouds, surrounded by an ornate scrolling foliate border. The fine hand-painted decoration demonstrates the skill of the craftsman, whilst the beautifully aged lacquer has developed the rich character and patina.
The ingenious tilt-top mechanism allows the table to be stored upright when not in use, creating a dramatic decorative display whilst occupying very little floor space. Lowered into position, it becomes an elegant occasional, lamp or centre table suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The table is raised on a turned lacquered
...pedestal decorated with further gilt bamboo motifs, standing upon an attractive tripod base with shaped feet, complementing the circular top perfectly.
