Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vernis Martin is an 18th-century French lacquer technique developed by the Martin brothers to imitate Asian lacquer work. It frequently features hand-painted figurative vignettes or pastoral scenes under a durable varnish layer, usually framed by gilded bronze mounts.

These stands usually combine exotic timber veneers such as kingwood or rosewood with cast chased ormolu mounts. Tops are often inlaid with natural marble slabs, while lower sections may incorporate mirrored backings or lacquered panels.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-applied paint strokes under a naturally aged varnish, hand-chased gilt-bronze mounts fitted with period-appropriate screws, and precise timber marquetry or veneer work along the carcass.

Position the stand in an unused alcove, corner, or hallway to hold an elevated bust, ceramic vase, or botanical arrangement. The tall vertical footprint adds architectural height while contrasting against clean modern decor.

Dust the timber and painted panels regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, keeping the surface free of harsh chemical sprays. Clean marble with a damp neutral-pH cloth and gently dry dusting the gilt-bronze mounts with a soft brush.
