This Victorian serveware piece is a Wedgwood Jasperware cheese dome and base in the English Country House style, originating from the 19th century circa 1880. The object is rendered in a striking combination of blue and white, fashioned from stoneware with a distinctive unglazed matt finish. The exterior displays moulded white neoclassical motifs, including classical cherubs and ornate oak leaf garlands wrapping around the perimeter of both the cylindrical body and the base tray. The top lid incorporates a raised radial foliage pattern centred beneath a turned bell-shaped finial handle, while delicate white raised beading borders the rim edges. The total dimensions measure 22 cm high, 27 cm wide, and 27 cm deep. This item serves as a decorative and functional piece for housing cheese at the dining table, or as an elegant display ornament positioned upon a sideboard top.

Developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the late 18th century, Jasperware is unglazed vitreous stoneware featuring white bas-relief decoration against coloured grounds. Cheese domes became prominent dining accessories during the Victorian era for preserving and displaying whole cheese wheels on dining sideboards.

Jasperware consists of high-fired stoneware coloured throughout or surface-dipped with metal oxides, such as cobalt oxide for blue hues. White ceramic relief motifs, known as sprigs, are moulded separately and applied by hand to the damp body prior to firing.

Authentic pieces feature impressed maker marks such as WEDGWOOD on the base, crisp relief detail without blurred edges, and a matte stoneware texture. Items manufactured prior to 1891 generally lack the word ENGLAND.

Position the dome on a sideboard, kitchen island, or dining table as a functional server or decorative centerpiece. Its blue and white colour scheme contrasts effectively against natural timber surfaces or contemporary stone countertops.
